"Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow." ~ Mary Anne Radmocher

For our clients between the ages 3-9 we use Play Therapy. Depending on the circumstances, we may implement the Child-Centered Play Therapy, Adlerian Play Therapy, or Prescriptive Play Therapy. All 3 of these theoretical approaches to Play Therapy are research based and are proven to be an effective way of helping children work through problems in a curative manner. Play therapy incorporates the child's natural method of expression, play, to allow therapeutic expression in a manner that promotes a healthier emotional state of being. Brevard Counseling, LLC has Play Therapy room stocked with therapeutic toys from Garry Landreth's (one of the founders of play therapy) recommended toy list. The toys are categorized into 3 different types: Real Life & Nurturing, Acting Out/Aggressive, and Creative Expression & Emotional Release.
For our clients ages 10 and older we may incorporate traditional "talk therapy" and/or expressive art therapy. To foster human growth, development, and healing, we may integrate imagery (via 2D & 3D artwork), music, drama, poetry, movement, storytelling, and such together as part of the therapeutic process. Expressive art therapy can allow clients to surpass the limitations of verbal communication while fostering self awareness and growth. Our Sandtray therapy is a favorite modality of ours that allows clients to heal and grow through genuine expression by way of the subconscious. Brevard Counseling, LLC has a beautiful Expressive Art Therapy Studio stocked with a variety of creative materials such as paints, paper, different types of sand (Play, Kinetic, and Jurassic Sand), Sandtray & miniatures, modeling clay, rocks, stickers, magazine clippings, music elements, ribbons, and much more.
For our adult clients, we may choose to incorporate either therapies such as Client - Centered, Hypnotherapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Positive Psychology, and such to suit the needs of each individual situation. Also, we may use approaches such as mindfulness (moment-by-moment awareness through guided imagery, visualization, meditation, and such), and more... At Brevard Counseling, LLC, the client and therapist work closely together to create a treatment plan that fosters the discovery of solutions to problems and growth towards a happier, more fulfilling life.
For our family clients, we base our approach on the Family Systems theory. We fully understand the value of each family member and the impact of emotionally charged life issues on the entire family unit; when one member of the family is troubled, all members of the family are affected in some way. Our approach is gentle, respectful, and focused on strengthening the relational aspect of the familial unit.
Our counselors who work with marriage and couples utilize the Gottman Method Couples Therapy. We help couples with communication, conflict, feelings of disconnection, blended families, extramarital affairs, parenting issues/struggles, and emotional issues associated with the marriage conflict. Our dedicated team has received extensive training and is here for you and your family.
