Kerry has been working with children & families for over 25 years. Throughout her professional career, she has worked in several positions (adoption specialist, school counselor/social worker, district mental health counselor for Orange County Public Schools, and an EAP Clinical Facilitator). She has always had a passion for working with children & adults. She has had extensive training in play therapy (Graduate Certificate in Play Therapy from UCF) and understands that play is the language that children use and is important for them in counseling. Play therapy can be used with children, adolescents, and even adults and is a non-directive approach which helps the individual express themselves freely.
Kerry has helped many adoptive families explore their journey of adoption through private and state adoptions. She is well trained in preparing families for adoption, completing adoption homestudies, post placement supervision, and any adoption concern that may arise. Additionally she has worked with many foster and adopted children and their parents/caregivers.
During her work with children and their parents, Kerry often met with parents who found themselves in relationship distress and she began researching the best methods and techniques to help strengthen relationships. Kerry currently works with many parents on relationship counseling and primarily utilizes Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
She has completed Level 1,2 & 3 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and received her training directly from the founders of the Gottman Method, Dr. John and Dr. Julie Gottman at University of Berkeley California.
She provides individual and family counseling, play and expressive art counseling. She has worked with many children of all ages to help regulate their emotions & build coping skills. Kerry is a Registered Play Therapist and an active member with the Association for Play Therapy. Additionally, Kerry is trained and specialize in CPRT (Child Parent Relationship Therapy) and hypnotherapy. She has received specialized training at University of North Texas with Dr. Dee Ray and Dr. Gary Landreth.
Kerry has been a life-long educator working in the education setting and continues to instruct as an Adjunct Instructor for Eastern Florida State College. She is a firm believer of giving back to the community and helping fellow counselors. It is this foundation in which Brevard Counseling has a muti-level counseling approach and you will find counselors of all levels of their career working at the office. Kerry's belief of giving back is shown in the mentoring of new counselors and helping them as practitioners grow and learn.
She is a Qualified Counselor Supervisor and provides supervision for counseling interns.
